La Fiesta Nacional de España - Spain's National Day
La Fiesta Nacional de España or Día de la Hispanidad as the day is also called is celebrated on 12 October. The latter term comes from when Christopher Columbus set foot for the first time in Las Americas in 1492. The day is a national holiday and is usually celebrated with a military parade in Madrid, headed by King Juan Carlos I.
On October 12, is also a local holiday in Zaragoza (Fiestas de Pilar) in Aragon, where the city's saint Arrows are put forward at the Plaza del Pilar. Thousands of worshipers from all over the world dressed in traditional costumes visit the square and presented flowers to her maiden Pilar.
