Los Reyes - thirteen days
El día de los Reyes Magos, or Los Reyes as one often says in short, is a Spanish public holiday, which is always celebrated on January 6. The same counterpart in Sweden, Epiphany July In both Spain and Sweden celebrated revelation of the day (Epiphany) when the three kings Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar visited the baby Jesus in the manger and gave their gifts: gold, myrrh and frankincense. An important difference between Spain and Sweden is that Spanish children receive their presents on the eve of Epiphany, that on 5 January. Magos name translates as astrologer (astrologer), and is borrowed from the religion Zoroastrianism. The three wise men are said to have come from Persia and practiced this religion. Below are two photos from Madrid when the three wise men will, it is called Cabalgata de Reyes Magos and is a major event which is seen by many.
Another event that occurs on this day is the draw of the lottery el Niño. The name El niño (child) is designed naturally to baby Jesus. Those who had no luck in the world's largest jullotteri El Gordo , now get a second chance. Well say what you want, but we were more lucky than jullotteriet. The lot below had the same two final digits as a third the price, hence we won 40 euros. Always something ...
